Sexton receives exemplary evaluation

“The good Lord above has blessed us with the best superintendent in Kentucky.”

Those were the words of Leewood Cornett, one of the oldest-serving board of education members in the state, following Superintendent Sexton's evaluation process during Monday night’s board meeting.

The superintendent's performance has been nothing short of exemplary, with his achievements significantly impacting the school district.

“I’ve worked with several outstanding superintendents,” Cornett said. “But Mr. Sexton is doing the best job I’ve ever seen.”

These are strong words from a man with 40 years of experience as a board member.

Sexton, despite his achievements, remains humble and appreciative of the kind words from Cornett and the board members during his review.

“I’m only as good as the board that supports me,” Sexton said. “You couldn’t ask for a better board to serve our students, staff, and the people of Clay County. These five individuals always put the needs of students and staff first in every decision they make.”

The district is undergoing over $40 million in renovation and construction projects. Construction of a nearly $20 million technology center is underway, and the district recently completed the renovation of Oneida Elementary and is working on the new Tiger Stadium.

Board members credit the job performed by Sexton for enabling these projects to come to life.

Board chairman Mark Hoskins says Sexton’s service goes well beyond his job.

“He truly cares about the welfare of our students and staff,” he said. “This isn’t just a job; it’s his way of life. Mr. Sexton eats, sleeps, and breathes the Clay County district. You can’t put a price tag on that kind of dedication and hard work.”
